In many parts of the world, there just isnt as much difference between the seasons anymore and overall the trend is towards warmer weather. The clothing industry relies on delineated seasons to sell different types of apparel. But if you can wear flip flops all year long (and not just in Southern California), clothing sales will drop. Warmer weather also affects the type of fabrics designers use and the styling. It is forcing fashion houses to ditch traditional seasonal collections for transeasonal garments that may lead to a drastic overhaul of fashion show schedules and retail delivery dates. The whole fashion system will have to change, Beppe Modenese, founder of Milan Fashion Week, told The New York Times last week. The fashion system must adapt to the reality that there is no strong difference between summer and winter any more You cant have everyone showing four times a year to present the same thing. People are not prepared to invest in these clothes that, from one season to the other, use the same fabrics at the same weight. Mr Modeneses comments came as New York fashion retailers blamed a prolonged Indian summer for poor autumn sales. Who needs a woollen pea coat when it is 30 degrees-plus? So worried are some fashion houses about the impact climate change is having on the way we dress and shop, they are calling in the climate experts. The Wall Street Journal reported last month that American retail giant Liz Claiborne Inc had enlisted a New York climatologist to speak to 30 of its executives on topics ranging from the types of fabrics they should be using to the timing of retail deliveries and seasonal markdowns. Other US fashion retailer giants, including Target and Kohls, have also started using climate experts to plan their collections and schedule end-of-season sales. And from January, Target will sell swimwear year-round. Closer to home, fashion designers say they are increasingly designing transeasonal collections using lighter- weight fabrics for a more temperate climate and readjusting their in-store delivery dates in line with the unpredictable seasons. Theres really no such thing as defined autumn/winter and spring/summer collections any more, says Margaret Porritt, of Melbourne fashion label Feathers. A lot of my garments are more transeasonal and rather than dropping them into store twice a year like I used to, I tend to move things in and out of store every couple of weeks, depending on the weather. Things were different when she started the business 35 years ago. Back then winter went into store in mid-January and summer in mid-June and that was it. There was nothing in between. I also used a lot more heavier wools and made great big heavy coats. I cant do that anymore; it just doesnt get cold enough, even here in Melbourne. They just dont sell. Its true that we dont buy as much heavy winter clothing as we used to, now that we think about it. And our boot purchases have also tapered off, which is a shame since we adore boots. But unlike Mary-Kate Olsen, we just cant wear sweaters, coats and boots on an 80 degree day. We adore winter clothes: cashmere sweaters, fabulous boots, wonderful hats and a gorgeous coat all make an appearance after the first frost. Amid the lights, parties and big names, it would seem to be very easy to forget the issue that has wracked fashion for the past year: the increasing prevalence of eating disorders among models and the young women they influence. Where Spains Association of Fashion Designers passed a ruling to forbid the participation of models with BMIs lower than 18 (the World Health Organization states that 18.5 or below is underweight) and asserted that display clothes be no smaller than size 8 (the average American woman wears size 14), the Council of Fashion Designers of America issued a statement containing general guidelines but no plans for direct enforcement. Among their suggestions: There should be no models under 16 and no work after midnight for models 18 and younger; the consumption of cigarettes and alcohol on location should be forbidden; statements on the early signs of eating disorders should be officially issued to those in the industry; models identified as suffering from eating disorders should be required to receive professional help; the industry should develop workshops designed to address the impact of eating disorders and the negative effects of smoking; organizers should provide healthy snacks backstage during shows. In a society where more than 80% of ten-year old girls describe a fear of getting fat and one in two fourth graders are currently on some kind of diet, those who are even indirectly responsible for shaping the popular conception of beauty and body image need to reassess their own principles. After viewing photos of fashion models, 70% of young women described themselves as angrier and more depressed than they had been before. In surveys, three out of four women listed an ideal size at least 10% underweight. And despite the presence of eating disorders and body image issues across the social spectrum, most insurance companies hesitate to approve treatment for these conditions, essentially making the argument that the issue is not a matter of diagnosable disease but a faulty sense of self-control. Designers, advertisers and models themselves argue that they have no control over the state of their industry and the ideals it projects they simply go along with whatever sells at the time . Solomon Garber BPL 5100 – Prof. LaManna – Individual Case Study Case# 275 Interboro, once a small manufacturer of scalpels and other surgical equipment, became the world’s best-known maker of prosthetic limbs and surgical implants under the leadership of Jack Dodson. The structure of the company, under Dodson, was very unique. As CEO, Dodson would routinely conceive new product ideas, go directly to his R&D department and see the product through from inception to completion. In the following case study analyses, I will analyze what went wrong with Interboro, as well as advise Ms.Francesca Fortas on the appropriate direction to take the company as she takes over from Mr. Dodson. Interboro’s weaknesses under Dodson’s leadership were very apparent. For starters, Jack would completely bypass his senior team on new product initiatives and how those products would fit into the broader strategy of the company. From this, we can infer that the company had a very passionate CEO who prided himself on product innovations, while simultaneously neglected other crucial areas necessary for continued success. Marketing was perhaps the company’s biggest incompetency.Soon thereafter, the company lost its innovating edge, one of its major initial strengths. Interboro’s external environment started to become a serious threat. Competitors were developing products that went beyond Interboro’s patents and designs. The competition within the industry was growing and their products outperformed the incumbents’. Based on my analysis of the companies strengths, weaknesses and external environment, I can confidently say that the company was in dire need of a savior and could no longer operate the way it was.I have illustrated the situation below: There is a very unique correlation between the company’s strengths, weaknesses and external environment. The lack of communication between Jack and his team, a weakness, direct ly leads to the company falling behind the competition, its external environment. The company’s corporate level strategy is in shambles. When the CEO secludes himself from the rest of his team and only focuses on one aspect of business level strategy, product innovation, the company will not operate at full capacity.Interboro’s business level strategy can be summed up in the following quote by its head of production, Frank Tambor: â€Å"he didn't have much faith that anyone in the company could come up with ideas, so he didn't really develop the capability. † When analyzing this quote, we can conclude that their was close to zero employee participation in Interboro’s day to day operations. My biggest recommendation to Francesca Fortas, the new CEO set to take over the reigns from a deceased Jack Dodson, is to recreate the Jack Dodson model of strong eadership. Francesca must adopt a hybrid model, one that uses Jack’s confidence as CEO, and his effi ciency to bring new products to market, while also getting employees involved and actually implementing employee suggestions. According to Ernesto Poza, a leading business consultant, making the employees involvement is a hallmark of good business. Making a larger percentage of manager’s compensation based on sales and profits is the first strategy that should be adopted. It is easy to institute and drives immediate action and results.Francesca is not suitable to oversee an entire reorganization of the company, rather, by utilizing her technological skills and business savvy, and adopting this hybrid model of strong leadership by employee involvement, she will likely champion Interboro into a new era of profitability. It is possible to adopt this hybrid model; it has been done before, most notably by Jack Welch, former CEO of GE. Mr. Welch was going to quit his first engineering position at General Electric because he was dissatisfied with the bureaucratic ways in which the c ompany operated.He was persuaded to stay and eventually was promoted to VP. He used his new position to simplify the management structure while at the same time vouching to be #1 or #2 in the industries GE participated in. This is precisely what Francesca must accomplish. Simplify the management structure, as opposed to an entire reorganization, while being as aggressive as Mr. Dodson was at getting products to market. The bottom line is that more people need to be involved in the entire operation, from product brainstorming and design to manufacturing and market.

*†What role does ‘place' play in forming one's identity? How does this affect the narrator in her life? † The narrator's life and her identity is shaped by this foreign land that she has moved to. Coming from a western world, as a woman, into an Arabic country, there are certain cultural perceptions that will ultimately alter her identity. The foreignness felt by the narrator is conveyed throughout the story. â€Å"My husband translated all this for me and said things to her which I have come to understand meant that tomorrow I would get used to their ways. This quote represents her inability to conform to the cultural and social acceptances. â€Å"If I tried to do the shopping the prices trebled. † indicates that even the local merchants tried to take advantage of her ‘foreignness' as she was incapable of altering herself to meet their demands or expectations. Perhaps the most apparent portrayal of the result of the setting on the narrator is the â₠¬Å"fading love† experienced between her and her husband. The flashbacks present within the story, â€Å"My second summer here was the sixth of our love – and the last of our happiness. allude to the vast differences between their relationship at various times. This foreshadowing as well as an imminent doom, relationship wise, allows the reader to sense the regret and deep emotional state experienced by the narrator. The narrator was from Europe and her marriage to an Egyptian man has cross-cultural implications. Even though â€Å"the inferior status of women† was explained to her, she still went through with this marriage. One could presume that the narrator's ethnocentrism was evident in assuming that her marriage would be more like a western one. â€Å"My foreignness, which had been so charming, began to irritate him. indicates that once he had returned home, the narrator's inability to change her to her setting, her ‘place' affected their relationship. This is backed by, â€Å"He was back home, and he needed someone he could be at home with, at home. † indicates that the narrator herself is aware of the implication her inability to conform is having on her relationship. Lucy, is the daughter she gave birth to yet she refers to Lucy as ‘his daughter' indicating that even though they are both her parents; the narrator identifies Lucy as belonging to him since she was born and raised in this foreign land. My treasure, my trap† allows the reader to notice that the narrator, this woman, wants to escape, to leave, but she is held back by the maternal love she has for her daughter. The place or setting is the biggest factor in this short story, it is a reason for the couple's fading love and growing estranged. The setting places the narrator in a foreign land, whose cultural values have a negative impact on her causing her to fade from blissful love to saddening regret and hurt. Her identity is altered to that of a fo reigner as perceived by those around her and this changes her mind set, perceiving herself differently, as a different person.

In order to describe such worldwide phenomenon, current paper will provide an in depth description of love, its importance, its forms and how values change due to love. Love is important in people’s life. It is caused by the fact that the society lives in the coexistence mode meaning that people depend on one another. Since people are social and must interact, love is important as it enhances such interaction among them. Love emotion makes people care about others and what happens to them. Moreover, love brings happiness and joy in people’s lives and it is also simple to trust one another in time of love. As for children, parental love helps and increases their survival rate and chances, since it compels their parents to care for them. In times of distress, love is important as it helps people overcome problems, especially when family members and friends express their positive attitude towards a distressed person. Love also increases emotional bond, as well as helps individuals in increasing their mutual support for one another (His Holiness Dalai Lama). Types of Love Personally, I think that love is important for survival. It means that my survival depends on love, since my parents gave birth and cared for me as a result of their love towards me. Moreover, the feeling of love is important not only for humanity, but for all living things. For example, animals also need love and they love each other, as well. Likewise, plants need love from humans, since the environment can only exist due to their love. To me, love is when I feel attached to another person or a thing that is important to me, as it helps in satisfying emotional needs. One characteristic of love is that it is biological in that it is an innate feeling that has to be given and also be received. The strength of love is in that it can maintain a society as mentioned above. When discussing love, it is always good to define love and explain the different types of it. According to the online dictionary, love has many definitions. Love is an emotion that is strong and constant towards another person. Love can also be defined as an attraction, which is inclusive of sexual desire. However, such type of love, according to the dictionary, is felt by people who have a romantic relationship. The same dictionary defines love as a strong affection towards another person due to such things as personal and kinship ties. Love is also an attraction that is based on common interests, benevolence and admiration. It is also a feeling of devotion, enthusiasm and warm attachment (Merriam Webster Dictionary). One of the ancient civilizations, the Greek, also has their definition of love. According to them, love can be divided into six categories. The first type of love according to the Greeks is Eros, which is passionate or romantic love. Some of the Greek philosophers stated that it is the most important type of love. The second type of love is Ludus, which is viewed as an uncommitted love or love that is based on game-playing. In such type of love, lying is viewed as part of the game. A person who holds such kind of love is not committed to anyone and is known to have many conquests. The third type of love, according to the same philosophers, is Storge, which is friendship-based and slowly developing. Such love type starts with the participating in mutual activities and leads to long-term relationships. In such type of love, sex is not obligatory or intense. The fourth type of love according to the same group is Pragma, which is practical love that leads to mutual benefits. Current love type is not always romantic. Sex is only included in such love when children are desired or needed. The fifth type of love is Mania, which unlike others is jealous, possessive and extreme. People who fall into current category tend to perform thoughtless actions, such as stalking the people they love. Lastly, there is Agape love, according to the Ancient Greeks. Such love is explained by its gentle and caring characteristics. It is also giving, brotherly and does not look at self-gain. According to the Greeks, it is rare and is only exhibited by rare individuals (Lee). Apart from the Greeks and the dictionary, modern scholars have also classified the types of love as they exist today. According to the Jonathan Inc., a foundation concerned with youths and teaching them about love, four types of love exist. They are: sexual love, Agape love and friendship love (Jonathan Inc.). In his theories of love, Sternberg developed a triangular theory of love. According to the psychologist, love can be classified in three categories: commitment, passion and intimacy. Intimacy category included such love types as friendship or liking, infatuation, romantic love, companionate and consummate love. Passion category comprises of such love types as infatuation, romantic love, fatuous and consummate love. Lastly, the commitment love can be infatuation, fatuous, companionate and consummate. Sternberg argued that it was most common among true friends, whereby feelings such as bonding, closeness and warmth are felt. The sociologist explained infatuated love as love at first sight, which is felt devoid of intimacy. In his view, such love does not last long, since its disappearance is sudden. He also explained the notion of empty love, which stems from deteriorating of strong love. In this case, all is left is commitment, but passion and intimacy disappears. Such love was explained as common in cultures where arranged marriages exist, since relationships begin from empty love. The other one is romantic love, which, according to Sternberg, is characterized by passionate arousal and emotional bonding. Companionate love is also identified by the sociologist and involves commitment and deep affection without passion in marriages. Steinberg explained that companionate love is stronger when compared to friendship and it requires stronger commitment. Family love was categorized as a part of companionate love, since it is among people that spend much time together. Fatuous love was characterized as the type of love that exists among married people, since it was driven by passion without intimacy, which is a stabilizing factor. Lastly, Steinberg identified consummate love, which is complete and only achieved by few people, though desired by all. When talking about the three major types of love, namely intimacy, passion and commitment, Steinberg explained that the type of love can shift during the relationship (Steinberg). How the Different Types of Love affect an Individual From the earlier discussion, three types of love can be noted: godly love, family and friendship love and romantic love. One of the loves, Agape or godly love is difficult to avoid for a person. Scholars argue that such love comes from God and then flows to the individuals. Agape love leads to commitment. In addition, Agape love leads to endurance and commitment to the other person. As for Christians who believe in Agape love, it brings them joy and hope. The effects of Agape love on an individual are different from the effects of romantic love on a person. Psychologists explain that romantic love affects a person psychologically. Researchers have explained that romantic love produces the same effects on an individual’s brain like drugs, such as powerful pain relievers and cocaine. The researchers explained that it is the reason why some people love taking cocaine, as it has the power of touching the area that makes a person feel good like when the person is in love. Additiona lly, romantic love has an ability to make people happy. Psychologists have also discussed the role of romantic love in relieving pain (WebMD). Although they may seem similar, romantic love is unlike Agape love, since it causes pain when it is lost. From the earlier observation, Agape love cannot be withdrawn, since it is unconditional. However, romantic love can actually be withdrawn. In such cases, a person may be subjected to pain and emotional suffering caused by the negative experience. In her attempt to determine the negative effects of withdrawing romantic love, Sailor argued that romantic love is important in marriages and is a necessary ingredient of them. However, when it is withdrawn, it can lead to various disorders, such as mood disorders for both adolescents and adults. It can also lead to anger and sadness after being withdrawn. Sometimes, life satisfaction may be lowered as a result of such negative experience (Sailor 3). Additionally, the author explains that the more the years that individuals had engaged in romantic life and the amount of trust also determines the amount of emotional distress. It is caused by the fact that closeness leads to trust and breaking the trust is considered painful by many people (Sailor, 4). However, one of the most painful forms of romantic love is rejection to an extent that people fail to function after they are rejected. The psychologist explained that different gender groups have different reactions to romantic love and its ending. Women tend to experience more distress than men when they are deprived of romantic love. Sometimes, the effects of romantic love and its withdrawal is physical. For example, some people after such ordeal tend to experience physical pain in their chests. Others may become depressed to an extent that they suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder. Family love According to scholars, family love is important to the children, since it helps in boosting their intelligence level (Ian). Therefore, when children are deprived in terms of family love, their emotional well-being and their intelligence are damaged. When such children have problems with stunted growth, lower IQ develops from love deprivation. In addition, stunted growth is another effect of love deprivation among children. A study done to support such argument proved that stunted children who move to foster home show higher results in terms of growth. Love and care positively affect not only children. The researchers explain that love also affects adults, since it improves their psychological health (Shulz and Paula). Why People Love Me A personal look at myself shows that some people love and adore me. Starting with my parents, their love towards me is caused by the natural fact that I am their child. In addition, they are the one responsible for delivering me into this world. Without them, I would probably not exist. Therefore, they love me as their own child. They also love me in a Christian manner. Since they are Christians, my parents love me as a way of exercising their Christian faith. My brothers and sisters, on the other hand, love me with their sibling love. They also love me because they have simply used to me. It has been discussed earlier in Steinberg’s theory, whereby he defines such type of love as companionate love, which is shared among family members. Some people also love me because they like me. Some like me due to my looks, while others like me due to my personality. It is mostly observed among my friends, as some of them have a strong liking for me, while the others envy me, as well. In addition, I have noticed similar liking among my teachers. Some of them like me because I perform well in class and I finish my homework in time. Others like me because I am good at answering questions. Liking is also evident among my neighbors. Some of them argue that I am peaceful and friendly, while others like the way I interact with their children, since I always try to be polite. Regarding the above information, I have observed another type of love among my parents, which is also observable among my church members and some of my religious neighbors, namely Agape love. Such people love me without any particular reason. Instead, they love me because it is their duty and the way they live and things they believe in make them love others. I have observed their love, which is not egoistic and is shared in any situation. However, it is not common for all people, since only a small number of them can experience such love. For example, I have also seen people loving me because sometimes they could use me for their personal intentions. Such people love me because they know they can gain something from me. But when such people receive what they want, they stop hating me or withdraw from me, since their feelings were temporary as explained by Steinberg. Does the Value of Love Change Culture? It should be stated that love is strong and sometimes unmatchable. When talking about love in an organizational setting, Barsade and O’Neill argue that love has the capability of positively impacting an organizational culture. It means that if love can affect the culture in an organizational setting, it can also affect the society’s culture in a positive way. According to the two researchers, love starts with the company’s employees and then flows to the clients. The researchers also explain that the employee who lives in a loving family or in a loving relationship can impart the same culture of love to his/her fellow employees (Barsade and O’Neill, 2). Employees who often experience love and other related emotions are also tend to share positive traits among the fellow employees. The researchers explain such love calling it companionate love, which is the same notion provided by Steinberg. According to them, such love is similar to romantic love only in that it is less intense and does not necessarily involve such things as passion, since it is based on tender connection between people. It occurs when people’s lives are interconnected as explained earlier by Steinberg. Such love, which positively impacts the organization’s culture, is not self-focused. In addition, it promotes sensitivity and interdependence among one another. As a result, it helps in strengthening the social bonds in the society and in making people committed and connected to each other at the same time. When explaining the type of love that can change body culture, Barsade and O’Neill state that it can be expressed in cognitive appraisal, body language, vocal tone, facial expression, psychological sensations and subjective experienced. Such expression can be transmitted from one individual to another forming a culture of love in the organization (Barsade and O’Neill 4). In addition, Barsade and O’Neill explain that such love can also be shaped by the social context within which it operates. When expressed, it makes people feel as objects of care and also leads to softness, sentiments and fellowship among the employees. Other emotions, such as tenderness, compassion, caring and affection, also stem from companionate love. In some situations, it helps in attracting employees in a certain area of expertise. In conclusion, a description of love, its importance, its forms and explanation of how values change due to love helps in understanding such widely shared phenomenon. The description helps in understanding that love is important not only to individuals, but to the family and to the society, as well. It is caused by the fact that love acts as the uniting force and helps in survival of the human race. A research on love reveals various types of love in traditional setting, as well as in modern settings. However, three main forms of love, which include Agape love, romantic love and companionate love that is shared among friends and family, dominate in definitions and description. Moreover, the researchers say that love has positive effects on individuals. Such effects include increasing of the intelligence level among kids and bringing happiness and joy into the lives of individuals. However, when withdrawn, love may have negative effects, such as depression, physical illness and negati ve emotions. Regarding the culture, love is said to have the ability of imparting positive values, such as care and cohesiveness. Due to such positive attributes of love, it should be promoted at all levels. People should love one another, while families should work hard to promote love. The society and the world at large also need to promote the value of love in order to ensure the continuity of the human race and ensure that happiness and joy are promoted at a higher level.

Radial Symmetry in Marine Life Radial symmetry is the regular arrangement of body parts around a central axis. Definition of Symmetry First, we should define symmetry. Symmetry is the arrangement of body parts so they can be divided equally along an imaginary line or axis. In marine life, the two main types of symmetry are bilateral symmetry  and radial symmetry, although there are some organisms that exhibit biradial symmetry (e.g., ctenophores) or asymmetry (e.g., sponges). Definition of Radial Symmetry When an organism is radially symmetrical, you could cut from one side of the organism through the center to the other side, anywhere on the organism, and this cut would produce two equal halves. Think of a pie: no matter which way you slice it, if you slice from one side to the other through the center, youll end up with equal halves. You can continue slicing the pie to end up with any number of equal-sized pieces. Thus, the pieces of this pie  radiate  out from the central point.   You can apply the same slicing demonstration to a sea anemone. If you draw an imaginary line across the top of a sea anemone starting at any one point, that would divide it into roughly equal halves. Pentaradial Symmetry Echinoderms like sea stars, sand dollars, and sea urchins exhibit a five-part symmetry called pentaradial symmetry. With pentaradial symmetry, the body can be divided into 5 equal parts, so any one of five slices taken out of the organism would be equal.    In the feather star shown in the image, you can see five distinctive branches radiating from the stars central disk. Biradial Symmetry Animals with biradial symmetry show a combination of radial and bilateral symmetry. A biradially symmetrical organism can be divided into four parts along a central plane but each of the parts is equal to the part on the opposite side but not the part on its adjacent side. Characteristics of Radially Symmetrical Animals Radially symmetrical animals have a top and bottom but dont have a front or back or distinctive left and right sides.   They also have a side with a mouth, called the oral side, and a side without the mouth called the aboral side.   These animals typically can move in all directions.   You can contrast this to bilaterally symmetrical organisms like humans, seals or whales, who usually move forward or backward and have a well-defined front, back and right and left sides. While radially symmetrical organisms can move easily in all directions, they may move slowly, if at all. Jellyfish primarily drift with waves and currents, sea stars move relatively slowly compared to most bilaterally symmetrical animals, and sea anemones barely move at all.   Rather than a centralized nervous system, radially symmetrical organisms have sensory structures scattered around their body.   Sea stars, for example, have eyespots at the end of each of their arms, rather than in a head region. One advantage of radial symmetry is that it may make it easier for organisms to regenerate lost body parts. The Kinship System of the Australian Aborigines Essay In the following paper I will be discussing the kinship of the Australian Aborigines. I will be discussing how this culture impacts the way they behave such as how the act and live. I will also be comparing this behavior to that of my life. I hope that you find this paper to be interesting as well as informative. I will start out by giving a little background on the Australian Aborigines. They are a group of several hundred Indigenous people that reside in Australia. They have existed before the British annexation of Australia in 1788, before that the number of people was over four hundred. In many cases the people or groups will talk about their â€Å"people† and their â€Å"country†. The countries are ethnographic areas. In many cases each country had extended families that lived in them. It was common to have cousins that marry. I would now like to talk about how the Aborigines dress. In many cases by early settlers they were observed to be naked. Some of the tribes had men and women that wore a belt around their waste that was used to carry tools and weapons. This belt was made of animal hair, animal fur, skin or fiber. Before the colonization of the Europeans it was just a simple flap in the front but, after they had to modify it. In the winter months the Aboriginal people made cloaks to keep warm. Next I would like to talk about their language. There were somewhere between 200 to 250 different Aboriginal languages spoken. Now there are fewer than 200 that still remain and all but 20 are considered to be endangered. In 1888 the language was proof that it was necessary to refer to the Aboriginal names and locations throughout the colonies. There are actually some Aboriginal words that are still used today. Next I will talk about the diet of the Aboriginal people. They will hunt or fish for their meat, gather fruits, berries, eggs, plants and insects as well. Some of the meats that they eat are kangaroos, wallabies, echidnas and possums as well as some reptiles and birds. When hunting they would use spears and boomerangs to catch and kill their food. The women were normally responsible for picking the berries as well as caring for the younger children. These are just a few things that the Aboriginal people did and still do today. I will now be talking about their society compares to my own. I do not think that it compares to my society very much. Some of the things that they do are similar to my society in the respect of hunting. I come from a family of people that enjoy hunting for a source of food. Many times these family members will share the food with other family if they are unable to hunt for one reason or another. My family also likes to fish which is another way that we are similar. The ways that their society differs from mine is that we do not believe in marring within our family. In many families though out the United States this is seen as incest and is punishable by law. The other way that we are not similar is that we wear a full body of clothes and always have. I have had the chance to meet some Aboriginal people through the work that my mother used to do. I enjoyed hearing stories of how their ancestors did things and how some of these things have changed throughout time. They still practice the hunting as well as the gathering of their food but, many times can be found wearing clothing. Tissue Conditioners Soft Lining Materials Health And Social Care Essay As a briefing history of the denture lining materials, we can find that in 1942, Matthews introduced plasticized polyvinylchloride as one of the first soft lining materials used with acrylic resin dentures (Sultana, 1991) then Lammie Storer published a summary of observations on different soft denture materials and classified the processed resilient materials as follows. (1) natural rubber, (2) polyvinylchloride, (3) polyvinylacetae, (4) methyl methacrylate copolymer, (5) silicone (Lammie Storer, 1958). Furthermore, they stated that this material became hard due to loss of plasticizer after several months, and became stained and cracked in the mouth. However, we tend to examine the composition and uses of both tissue conditioners and soft lining materials in prosthetic dentistry. Basically, Tissue conditioners composed of polyethylmethacrylate and mixture of aromatic ester and ethyl alcohol and they are found in three components system: polymer (powder), monomer (liquid) and dibutyl phthalate as plasticizer flow control (liquid) when mixed together a gel is formed (Braden M 1970). The major uses of these tissue conditioners materials are: tissue treatment, temporary obturator, baseplate stabilization, to diagnose the outcome of resilient liners, liners in surgical splints, trial denture base and as a functional impression material (Nallaswamy D. 2003). Tissue treatment: the advantage of using a tissue conditioner is to prepare the selected oral structure to withstand all the stress from the prosthesis and to preserves the residual ridge. It is also used to heal irritated hyperemic tissues before denture fabrication. Temporary obturator: tissue conditioners can be added as a temporary obturator over the existing complete or partial denture and this can be done directly in the month or indirectly after an impression of surgical area has been made. Stabilization of baseplate and surgical splints or stents: when undercuts are present on an edentulous cast, an acrylic temporary denture base cannot be used as it may get locked into the undercut and break the cast during removal. In this case tissue conditioner may be used to stabilize the record base and prevent breakage of the cast. Adjunct to an impression or as a final impression material: when it is difficult to determine the extent of the denture base due to movable oral structure, tissue conditioner can be used to record the extensions of the denture in a dynamic form that will later help in preparing an impression tray for the final impression. To diagnose the outcome of resilient liners: patient with well-constructed denture sometimes develop chronic soreness and find it difficult to wear it comfortably. Tissue conditioners can be used to determine if this problem will be resolved with the use of a resilient liner. (Nallaswamy D, 2003). Commercially, there are a wide range of tissue conditioner products, for example, GC tissue conditioner and Visco-gel and more but here we will compare between these two only: Firstly, GC- tissue conditioner is composed of Polyethylmethacrylate (powder), methacrylate monomer (liquid) and dibutyl sebacate (plasticizer). Manufacturer claims that using of dibutyl sebacate as plasticizer instead of the conventional dibutyl phthalate has a merit of not being harmful to the human endocrine system. However, it is suitable for conditioning and relieving tissue (for example when there are areas of inflammation or pressure points on the inflamed alveolar ridge), but also for temporary soft relining of partial and complete dentures as well as functional impressions to fabricate new dentures or restore existing ones, for immediate dentures and as an interim solution for direct loading situations in implantology. It is manufactured by GC EUROPE, Belgium (www.gceurope.com). On the other hand, Visco-gel tissue conditioner is composed of Polyethyl methacrylate (powder), Phthalyl butyl glycolate, Ethanol (liquid). It is can be used prior to denture replacement, extension or rebasing, tissue conditioner where the denture-bearing tissues have become disturbed by either denture trauma or infection, temporary lining immediately after extraction or oral surgery, temporary soft liner when normal dentures are not tolerated, particularly for patients with impairment of general health and as functional impression material in post-operative cases or when ill-fitting dentures require replacement or rebasing. Visco-gel is manufactured by DENTSPLY DeTrey GmbH, Germany (www.dentsply.com). Regardless the trade, the following steps should be considered while applying a tissue conditioner, first, tissue part of the denture base, which crosses an undercut, should be reduced then the tissue surface of the denture, which covers the crest of the ridge, should be reduced by 1 mm to allow sufficient room for placement of the tissue conditioner (Nallaswamy D, 2003). Soft lining material is the second part of this review and here it is wise to understand the difference between the tissue conditioner and the soft lining material. The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has issued two international standards related to liner materials: (ISO 10139-1:1991): first, lining materials for removable dentures-Part 1: short-term materials and soft lining materials for removable dentures (ISO, 1991) and the second, lining materials for removable dentures-Part 2: materials for long-term use (ISO, 1999). A short-term liner is one that is used intraorally for up to 30 days. A long-term liner is one that maintains softness and elasticity for more than 30 days (Garcia Jones, 2004). Practically, the ISO is differentiating between the temporary and the permanent soft ling material but theoretically, we can find that tissue conditioners can be used for more than 30 days depends on the loss of the plasticizer. Moreover, tissue conditioner and soft l ining have been used for the same purpose clinically. So then, what is the difference? Viscosity is that difference so whenever the material is with low viscosity and flow easily you can use it as a tissue conditioner while material with high viscosity is indicated to be used as a soft liner. There are two groups of soft lining material the first is the acrylic resin-based liner which consists of powder and liquid components. The powder has poly (ethyl or methyl) methacrylate, and sometimes copolymers, while the liquid contains methyl methacrylate monomer and plasticizers that are added to lower the glass transition temperature. The distribution of the large plasticizer molecules minimizes entanglement of polymer chains, which allows individual chains to slide by one another, keeping the liner from fully hardening. The liquids used do not contain acrylic monomers (Craig Gibbons, 1961; Anusavice, 2003). The second type of these soft lining materials is the silicone denture liners wh ich are basically polymers of dimethylsiloxane. Poly(dimethylsiloxane) is a viscous liquid, which can be cross-linked to give rubber a good elastic property. The cross-linking agent is usually an alkyl-silane (silicate) and the reaction is catalysed by an organo-metal salt such as tinoctoate or benzoyl peroxide (McCabe, 1976). Silicones are not dependent on leachable plasticizers and remain elastic for longer periods of time (Anusavice, 2003; Munksgaard, 2004). These liners cannot bind to the acrylic denture base; however, the use of an adhesive can overcome this limitation, which was shown to be a method of failure (Dogan et al., 2006). These liner materials may be selected for the treatment of the following conditions: poor stability of denture, inadequate retention of denture, reduction of vertical dimension, degradation of the denture base, improper extension of borders into the muccobuccal fold regions, mucosal irritations, atrophic ridges, bony undercuts, denture opposing natu ral teeth, reduced thickness and viscoelasticity of the mucosa, pain from gingival irritation, maxillofacial defects, traumatic or pathologic tissue loss and for reline of an existing denture (Zarb et al., 1989; Christensen, 1995; Hayakawa et al., 2000; Hill Rubel, 2011). As a conclusion then, these viscoelastic materials either tissue conditioners or soft lining materials are contributing to solve a list of dental problems that might exist in the removable prosthesis or could be used in a range of dental procedures which are related to fully or partially edentulous patients. Furthermore, these materials need a continuous care and maintenance especially, the tissue conditioner which tends to harden and roughen due to the loss of the plasticizer. However, we should not forget the primary purpose of these materials which is they are used as temporary materials during transitional situations.

From the birth of our Republic, Federalists and Antifederalist debated the nature of democracy and representation. One argument involved competing views of â€Å"communities of interest† and the nature of representation. Federalists desired a strong national government ruled by the political elite. Leaders should be isolated from the public and focus on making broad decisions at the national level. Antifederalists favor promotion of local interests through likeminded congressional representation. Government should be as close to the people as possible and representatives’ actions should be based on their constituent’s wishes. Political compromises were reached as demonstrated in the constitution and subsequent composition of congress. The debate concerning the nature of democracy and representation continues today, reflected in the differing and competing goals of redistricting, in part due to the vague nature and wording within the constitution. Both Fe deralist and Antifederalist views are reflected in modern politics however American politics has consistently moved towards an Antifederalist ideology since the decline in power of political parties. For the Antifederalists, â€Å"communities of interest† have a narrow definition, one which is both geographically and interest specific. Government should be close to the people; with direct democracy impractical, representation becomes necessary (FF 7, p.43). For representation to be accurate congressmen should reflect the local communities they represent; a large number of representatives with small constituencies are necessary to insure individual interests are entertained. Small constituencies provide a more intimate relationship; an increase in personal knowledge and communal... ...t government should be more accessible and is too far removed from the public. Evidence shows that congressmen are concerned with staying connected to districts and invest considerable time and energy being visible and available publically. Racial gerrymandering has provided unique descriptive representation opportunities but at the expense of historical geographic voting communities. People hate congress but love their incumbent due to a committee system which generally rewards seniority and personalized constituent services. The high reelection rate has resulted in the institutional memory desired by Federalists while partisan gerrymandering has made political seats safer on both sides of the isle. Both sides are partially represented in 21st Century politics but neither the Federalists nor Antifederalist would consider our current political climate ideal.

Blair Khoker Religion and the Arts Professor Wendy Raver December 16th, 2013 Bharata Natyam The word â€Å"Bharata† comes from a combination of three main elements in Indian dance; Mood (bhava), melody (raga), and rhythmic timing (tala). The word â€Å"Natyam† means both dancing and acting. Bharata Natyam is from South Indian, specifically Tamil Nad. This dance style has been preserved mostly in the beautiful ancient temples and areas of Tanjore and Madras. South India has many sculptures of Gods and Goddesses who are lavishly decorated and ornamented and who show the art, religion, and culture of the country. Enakshi Bhavani describes these beautiful shrines and religious areas as being â€Å"an atmosphere of ancient India linger[ing] with a compelling fragrance† (28). Where this dance style originated is very important to how it is viewed today in modern times and western societies. In India, there are still ancient areas in which the traditions and teachings of Bharata Natyam are being studied, but how these teachings evolved into modern society is i mportant in understanding its religious impact on the Indian community. Bharata Natyam embodies three basic aspects of classical Indian dancing; The pure dance, dance embodying an expressive mood and dance containing a dramatic element. It must be strongly emphasized that Bharata Natyam in its true and proper form is studied in a very intense manner. In some cultures the dance is done to invoke gods and enact mythological events. The dancers go through immense amounts of training in order to be able to control every muscle in their body. One in three adults own a tablet. As tablets are becoming more and more common a new debate has formed over whether K-12 school districts should switch from print textbooks to digital textbooks on tablets. The first benefit of digital textbooks is that students will have new information at their fingertips. The second benefit is that high level education prefers tablets. The negative about having a tablet is that many people don’t have wi-fi. As you can see, the benefits out-weigh the negatives by far and there really should be no debate. On a tablet e-textbooks can be updated instantly to get new editions or information. Schools will not have to constantly buy new copies, which few public schools buy due to the high prices of textbooks. Most public schools still have history books from when Bush was president. FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski and Secretary of Education Arne Duncan said that, â€Å"too many students are using books that are 7-10 years old with outdated material.† Subjects are especially beneficiary to subjects that constantly change, such as Science and History. On e-textbooks new editions and new information can be constantly at your fingertips. High-level education officials prefer tablets over textbooks. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and Federal Communications Commission chair Julius Genachowski said on February 1, 2012 that schools and publishers should â€Å"switch to digital textbooks within five years to foster interactive education, save money on books, and ensure classrooms in the US use up-to-date content.† The federal government, in collaboration with several tech organizations, released a seventy-page guide for schools called the â€Å"Digital Textbook Playbook,† a â€Å"roadmap for educators to accelerate the transition to digital textbooks.† Some say that using tablets is more expensive than using print textbooks. Putting tablets in K-12 schools involves buying the tablet and the textbooks, building new wi-fi structures, and training administrators how to use the technology. Costs for e-textbooks on IPad tablets are 552% higher than new print textbooks in an average high school. A prominent education marketing expert Lee Wilson, estimated the annual cost per student per year to be seventy-one dollars and fifty-five cents versus fourteen dollars and twenty-six cents for print textbooks. Although, this is true they are thinking of the now and not keeping in mind the later. Right now, yes that much money will be spent but in the long haul it will add up to save you money. Just in a year E-textbooks can save schools between two-hundred and fifty dollars and one thousand dollars per student per year. Also, tablet prices are dropping as the years go by, making them even more affordable. Tablets cost on average four-hundred and eighty-nine dollars in 2011, three hundred and eighty-six dollars in 2012, and are projected to cost two hundred and sixty-three dollars in 2015. In the end using tablets is less expensive than using textbooks. As times are changing it’s important that we roll with the times. Using tablets in school will help supply students with new information all the time and high level education prefers them. Some may have wrong interpretations of them being more expensive than textbooks but as you read, they are not. To answer this question we need to look at the theoretical concept of economic, as per the economic concept; â€Å"In contrast to a monopoly  or oligopoly, it is impossible for a firm in perfect competition to earn economic profits  in the long run, which is to say that a firm cannot make any more money than is necessary to cover its economic costs. In order not to misinterpret this zero-long-run-profits thesis, it must be remembered that the term ‘profit' is also used in other ways. Neoclassical theory defines profit as what is left of revenue after all costs have been subtracted, including normal interest on capital plus the normal excess over it required to cover risk, and normal salary for managerial activity. Classical economist’s on the contrary defined profit as what is left after subtracting costs except interest and risk coverage; thus, if one leaves aside risk coverage for simplicity, the neoclassical zero-long-run-profit thesis would be re-expressed in classical parlance as profits coinciding with interest in the long period, i. e. the rate of profit tending to coincide with the rate of interest. Profits in the classical meaning do not tend to disappear in the long period but tend to normal profit. With this terminology, if a firm is earning abnormal profit in the short term, this will act as a trigger for other firms to enter the market. As other firms enter the market the market supply curve will shift out causing prices to fall. Existing firms will react to this lower price by adjusting their capital stock downward. This adjustment will cause their marginal cost to shift to the left causing the market supply curve to shift inward. However, the net effect of entry by new firms and adjustment by existing firms will be to shift the supply curve outward.
